When you may not

A TIE still in date on the day of your return normally does the job by itself. Read the expiry printed on the card before you buy a ticket. A renewed card, for its part, starts with a new toma de huellas.

• The proof that the renewal is in progress, or the police report (denuncia) of the loss or theft

policia.es lists “autorizaciones de regreso” among the procedures of the Oficina de Extranjeros de Toledo at Ronda de Buenavista 57, and the Delegación del Gobierno lists “POLICIA-AUTORIZACIÓN DE REGRESO” among the police procedures of its Toledo office, served with a cita previa. The Talavera de la Reina comisaría does not list it.

Ask for a cita previa for the province of Toledo as soon as the trip is likely, not when it is certain. The authorisation only covers a limited period, so read its dates when you receive it, and plan the return inside them.
