Huellas TIE Toledo: from fingerprints to the card in your hand

A non-EU resident of Toledo obtains the TIE in two booked visits, both listed at Ronda de Buenavista 57: the toma de huellas, where the police take your fingerprints with form EX-17, then the recogida, where you collect the card. TIE stands for Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero: “identity card of a foreigner”. It is your photo identity card in Spain, and it shows your NIE, the kind of stay or residence you hold, and the date it ends.

The procedure, in Spanish and in English

En castellano

Toma de huellas (expedición de tarjeta)

In plain English

The visit where the police take your fingerprints so that your TIE card can be made.

Forms
  • EX-17
  • Modelo 790 código 012
Where
Ronda de Buenavista 57, Toledo (police procedures, same building as the Oficina de Extranjería); Comisaría de Talavera de la Reina, C/ Carlos Barral 2
Carry
  • EX-17 with your signature
  • Pasaporte and visado (visa), with a copy
  • Fotografía reciente (a recent colour photo)
  • Tasa 790-012, paid (bank stamp or justificante de pago)
  • Resolución, if granted in Spain
  • Certificado de empadronamiento

Before the card: your permission

The TIE grants nothing by itself. It is the document of a right you already have: a visa stamped in your passport by a Spanish consulate, or a resolución, the written decision of the Oficina de Extranjería, if your authorisation was granted in Spain.

Arrived on a visa? Then the fingerprints are your first cita previa for the province of Toledo. The rules allow little time after entry, and slots are not always easy to find.

Toma de huellas: the first visit

Toma de huellas means “taking of fingerprints”. The officer checks your papers, records your prints and your signature, and hands you a resguardo. Translated, the word means “safeguard”: it is the slip that proves your card is in production. Keep it safe: you show it to collect the card, and it is your proof of the request while you wait.

  • EX-17, filled in and signed
  • Pasaporte with the visa inside, plus a photocopy
  • Fotografía: one recent colour photo, passport size, plain white background
  • Tasa 790-012, with the bank stamp or the online receipt
  • Resolución favorable, when the authorisation was granted inside Spain
  • Certificado de empadronamiento, often requested
  • Justificante de cita, printed or on your phone

Recogida de tarjeta: the second visit

Recogida means “collection”. The Delegación del Gobierno lists the recogida of the TIE among the police procedures of its Toledo office, served with a cita previa, so plan on a second booking. Go yourself, with the resguardo and your passport.

Before you leave the counter, read the card: your name, your NIE, the type of residence and the dates. A mistake is easier to fix on the spot than later.

When the card ends

A TIE lasts as long as the authorisation behind it. When the authorisation is renewed, a new card follows, with a new fingerprint appointment. Long-term residents renew the card itself: the Delegación names that procedure together with the toma de huellas. A trip abroad while the renewal is pending calls for an autorización de regreso.

In Castilla-La Mancha, a renewal or change of some temporary residence permits (residence without work, family reunification, employed or self-employed work) can be supported by an informe de esfuerzo de integración, a report on your effort to integrate, issued by the Junta de Comunidades, the regional government. It is for people on the padrón of a town in the region. You apply on the Junta’s sede electrónica with a digital certificate or Cl@ve, or in person at one of its registry points, with your TIE, your padrón certificate and your application or the letter from the Oficina de Extranjería. If no report arrives within one month, the Junta says the effort can be shown to the Oficina de Extranjería by any other lawful means.

In Toledo, in particular

Huellas TIE Toledo: the Delegación del Gobierno lists the toma de huellas and the recogida de TIE among the police procedures of its office at Ronda de Buenavista 57, both by cita previa, and policia.es lists TIE issue at the Comisaría de Talavera de la Reina as well. Each visit is a separate booking, so check the office on each confirmation.

Questions on this chapter

Huellas TIE Toledo: when should I book?

As soon as you arrive with your visa, or once your resolución is granted. Do not wait for the first weeks to pass.

Do I need an appointment to collect the card?

Plan on one. The Delegación’s page lists the recogida de TIE among the police procedures served with a cita previa.

Can a friend collect the card for me?

Plan to go yourself. Collection is personal, and the officer checks that the card is yours.

Can I do my fingerprints in Talavera de la Reina?

Possibly: policia.es lists TIE issue (expedición TIE) at the Comisaría de Talavera de la Reina. If the booking system offers it, you may choose it.
